Deputies plan to target drunken drivers New Year’s Eve
Six drivers arrested last New Year’s Eve
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is hoping New Year’s revelers will plan ahead to get home without driving drunk on New Year’s Eve.
Deputies will be keeping an eye on motorists next Monday night and have instructions to stop drivers they suspect might be drunk, according to the sheriff’s office.
Six drivers were arrested by deputies for drunken driving last New Year’s Eve and the sheriff’s office believes tougher laws and increased enforcement are changing habits.
Law enforcement is also promoting Miller Lite Free Rides, which will be available on 20 Metro transit routes from 7 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. The Dane County Tavern League will also offer a safe rider program.
Other options include planning for a designated driver, taking a cab, staying the night, or staying sober.
