DNR changes plans for MacKenzie Center after public outcry
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has responded to public outcry over proposed changes to the MacKenzie Environmental Education Center's school programs.
MacKenzie Environmental Education Center in Poynette said it welcomes 16,000 school children every year.
Last month, the DNR was looking for a private vendor to fund and run the facility, and its decision to restructure funding for the center could have put MacKenzie's school programs on hold.
Now, the DNR said whoever takes over must continue the education programs.
The DNR is submitting a proposal with these stipulations. It should be ready for public review in a couple of months.
