Members of the Theresa Terrace neighborhood gathered for a community supper Saturday night at Falk Elementary School.
Mayor Paul Soglin attended, meeting with area families and discussing the possibility of building a neighborhood center in the troubled community.
With the area’s reputation for violence, parents want a safe place where their kids can go after school.
"I think it is a good idea, some of these kids need activities to do after school," said area parent Briana Jackson.
"It's got to come from the folks who live here," stated Mayor Soglin. "There has to be an interest, and then of course there is the outcome. We will get kids who are stronger in school, families that are more cohesive."
Mayor Soglin said the city council is on track for buying and renovating a house that is near Theresa Terrace and Jacobs Way.
That house would be transformed into a community center.
