College Goal Day addresses education funding
Students get help with FAFSA applications
Students looking to get a head start on their path to higher education got a lesson in financial aid Sunday.
Madison College hosted College Goal Wisconsin to help students prepare for college expenses. More than 100 high school students stopped by the campus to learn the best approaches to financial aid.
Volunteers were on hand to help students and their families with their FAFSA applications. They also answered questions about how to fund higher education.
Volunteer Kate Sopha said the event helps reach out to students who are afraid to talk money when it comes to college preparation.
“It really helps students no longer fear financial aid,” Sopha said. “Financial aid can be very scary for students when they first start it. We don’t want students to be afraid of the process, and we also don’t want them to not fill it out because they are afraid.”
Due dates for FAFSA applications vary from college to college, but Sopha said earlier is better when it comes to education funds.
