City tells homeless to leave East Washington Ave. site

Police post eviction notice at city-owned property

MADISON, Wis. -

A group of homeless people who set up camp on East Washington Avenue are being told by the city they need to leave.

Madison police dropped off a notice at the camp Wednesday that those occupying the city property in the 800 block of East Washington Avenue must leave by 3 p.m. Friday.

According to the notice, people who don't leave could be cited for trespassing.

Madison police say they'll work with those who are at the site to determine the next step.
