Sarah Carlson has been named anchor for the top-rated WISC-TV newscast "News 3 at 6."
Carlson and Eric Franke currently anchor the 10 p.m. news and will be paired for the 6 p.m. broadcast as well.
WISC-TV news director Colin Benedict said the change came after discussions with anchor Susan Siman.
"Susan asked us to review her work commitments in order to spend more time with her family," said news director Colin Benedict. "I'm thrilled we could find a solution that works for Susan, Sarah and our viewers."
Siman will continue to anchor "Live at Five" with Mark Koehn. In addition, her signature reporting will be featured on "News 3 at 6" and "News 3 at 10."
"I've anchored every newscast in the 17 years I've been with News 3 and loved every minute of it. Sometimes, you have to make minor adjustments in your life to make everything else work. That's what I'm doing," said Siman. "This change will allow me to continue to do the job I love and still have time to devote to my son who's in middle school."
The change is effective immediately, Benedict said.
Carlson said she is excited for the new challenge.
"I'm honored to be part of the team that produces the 6 p.m. newscast with the best, most reliable local news in town," said Carlson. "I also hope my years of experience in Madison as both a journalist and a mom can help make a difference."
WISC-TV is the news ratings leader in the Madison market. "Live at Five," "News 3 at 6" and "News 3 at 10" are all the most watched newscasts in their respective time periods.
"We are extremely lucky to have a team of respected journalists who have a track record of success and deep roots in the community," said Benedict.
