An 8-year-old boy is dead after he was shot near Kieler.

The Grant County sheriff's office was notified Friday that a boy had been accidentally shot with a gun. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after deputies and emergency medical crews arrived.

The victim was not identified. No other details were released. Kieler is a small community about 5 miles north of Dubuque in Grant County.

The sheriff's office is investigating.
