Area homeless on the move again
Advocates say homeless are running out of options
On Sunday, Madison's homeless staying at Token Creek Campground will be evicted.
Clean-up at the site started Saturday.
The 20 people currently staying at Token Creek will move to private property off Portage Road.
But the city could fine its owner because the site is not legally zoned for camping.
Advocates for the homeless said they're out of options.
"We've had no legal place to go for a year and a half now," said Brenda Konkel of the Tenant Resource Center, "and there's still no legal place to go and it's frustrating because people can't get into the shelter because their 60 days are up, they can't camp anywhere, they get ticketed for sleeping downtown, there's just nowhere left for people to go that's legal."
Konkel said that she's filed an appeal with the zoning board.
A temporary day shelter on East Washington is also scheduled to close on March 31 until a new location can be found.
