Reedsburg Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after two people were found dead inside of a home Friday night.
According to police, a friend found George Snake, 24, and Cheyenne Fiddler, 23, dead inside a home in the 1100 block of Maple Street in Reedsburg around 7:00 p.m. Friday night. The two people were pronounced dead by the Sauk County coroner.
Police believed Snake shot and killed Fiddler after an argument early Friday morning, then turned the gun on himself. Officers responded when a friend went into the house and found the two people dead.
"It's more than anyone around here could've imagine happening," said neighbor Bill McKenzie, who lives two doors down from the incident.
Police said the two found dead were dating and she had recently moved to Reedsburg from Red Wing, Minn. People living nearby said the new neighbors had only been there a few months or so.
"Everything was so safe, and all of the sudden this happens. I'm sure nobody else is going to do it, but you just don't know. Are you safe anywhere anymore? That would be the question," said McKenzie.
Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident. However, toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.
McKenzie said he's glad no one else in the neighborhood was hurt.
"It was a terrible tragedy and me, and the other neighbors too. We all agree that it's terrible the things that could have happened," McKenzie said. "A bullet could have run astray, and everyone is so close together here."
No one from Reedsburg police could go on camera Saturday, but the department said investigators don't think anyone else was involved in the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
McKenzie said he isn't scared of his community, but he is sad for the loss.
"We would have been good neighbors," McKenzie said. "But we never had a chance to get acquainted."
The bodies were scheduled to for autopsies Saturday morning, but there is no official word of those results.
