MADISON, Wis. -

An employee of a Madison bar said he feared for his life when a man started swinging an aluminum baseball bat at his head Wednesday night, according to police.

The disturbance at Babe’s at 5614 Schroeder Rd. started about 9 p.m. when a man was kicked out of the bar for bothering women. Police said Robert E. Morris, 64, missed the bar employee with his bat but struck and shattered outside doors.

The victim got the license plate number off Morris’ car and police went to his home on Waterside Street. Police said they found Morris hiding in a closet in his own with a loaded handgun within his reach.

Police said Morris was intoxicated and initially belligerent, but later apologized for his behavior.

He was arrested on suspicion of second degree reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, endangering safety with firearm while intoxicated, speeding and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
