Alliant-owned company to lay off 30 employees
RMT Inc. terminations to begin Friday
Layoffs at a Madison renewable energy construction firm will leave 30 area employees without jobs.
Alliant Energy Corp.-owned RMT Inc. filed a layoff notice Tuesday with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The layoffs will start Friday and continue through April 30.
The company is also letting go of 36 out-of-state workers, allowing 85 employees to remain.
In its notice to the department, RMT President David Kutcher said the terminations are the result of selling the company.
Alliant is about to finalize the sale to Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives of Chicago, said Scott Reigstad, a spokesman for Alliant.
“The wind business isn’t doing very well,” he said. “And we’re looking to get back to our core business of gas and electric utilities.”
The layoffs were part of a sales agreement that became public in December, Reigstad said.
The notice said RMT would let 66 employees go after Friday; 30 of the company’s employees are from the company’s Madison facility on Heartland Trail.
The Department of Workforce Development and the Southeastern Wisconsin Workforce Development Board said they will provide job placement services to the affected workers.
It was not known if the buyer would retain any employees.
