A 'safe' Freakfest finishes with only 36 arrests
Police: 33,000 attend downtown Halloween bash; only 4 jailed Saturday
Police described Saturday’s Freakfest as a “safe event,” reporting 36 arrests made over the course of the night.
Police said 36 arrests were made during Madison’s Halloween bash -- held annually on State Street -- for minor alcohol-related violations such as underage drinking and open intoxicants. Four people were jailed, but the remaining 32 people who were arrested received citations and were released.
About 300 law enforcement officials were on hand to help keep the peace during the party, which attracted approximately 33,000 revelers, police reported.
In 2011, about 26,000 people attended Freakfest and a total of 32 people were arrested, according to Channel3000.com records.
Madison Police Department, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Dane County Sheriff's Department, Wisconsin Capitol Police, Fitchburg Police Department and the State Fair Park Police worked together to cover the event.
