Funeral Arrangements Made

Updated: 8:57 am CDT October 2, 2006

Students, parents and staff of the Weston School District got a chance to meet with crisis and grief counselors on Sunday.

This was the first of two long counseling sessions scheduled at the school.

Weston junior Jessica Erdmann said that she's spent the past few days trying to get away from the horrific memories in her head by hanging out with her friends.

"I don't think anyone is asking questions," said Erdmann. "We just tell each other what we saw and how we felt."

"Every night we've spent the night with each other just to be together," said Erdmann.

Parents David and Jean Hertler said that she came to find out how they can help their daughter cope with the tragedy. Their daughter was in the school office when the shooting took place, WISC-TV reported.

"There was one gentleman that said his son couldn't sleep at night and wanted to sleep with his parents," said David Hertler.

David Hertler said that his daughter is also experiencing signs of trauma.

"We're giving her a lot of space," said Jean Hertler.

The Hertlers and other parents said that they encouraged their teens to seek help in getting through the crisis.

"We have a good bit of background in counseling and psychology, but when things like this happen there's never enough," said David Hertler.

The Hertlers said that they believe simply listening to your children can make a big difference.

"You need to connect with other people," said David Hertler. "This is a great time to unify, this is a great time to get to know one another."

Official said that counseling and listening sessions will continue on Monday at 9 a.m., through 2:30 p.m. Staff will be on hand to answer questions for parents or students, WISC-TV reported.

Weston schools will be in session again on Thursday with the first hour reserved for students to talk amongst themselves.
