A new way to buy and sell Badger football tickets went online Friday.

Dubbed the “Ticket Marketplace,” the site has already sold 42 football tickets. The system is nothing new for Badger sports fans that bought 750 to 800 tickets during basketball and hockey season last year.

The site is designed for season ticket holders to sell their unused tickets to other fans. The key advantage to the system is that ticket holders can sell their tickets with no strings attached.

Normally the seller would be held responsible for any behavior of someone who bought his or her ticket. By using the new system, they sell through the site, and are relieved of that responsibility. They are also relieved of the chance they might lose their tickets due to rowdy behavior on the part of the buyer as they would selling the ticket any other way.

"We think it's a great benefit to people on both ends, for those who want to sell their ticket in a very comfortable easy way, and for those who want to purchase a ticket, it provides them a little bit of security that they may not have in other transaction opportunities out there," said Vince Sweeney, Sr., associate athletic director.

The marketplace is only available to athletic department donors who have given $50 or more. The site also resells the tickets at face value, avoiding price gouging sometimes seen from scalpers or other illegitimate ticket sales.
