The city of Madison could make a move to improve the quality of drinking water.

A new filter has been proposed for Well 29, WISC-TV reported.

Well 29, located on Madison's far East Side, has been found to produce water with levels of manganese that are within Environmental Protection Agency rules but exceed recommended aesthetic guidelines.

The well is currently on standby status.

The filtering system will cost about $2.5 million, WISC-TV reported.

The mayor has proposed the water filter in his Capitol budget for next year.
