The mayor of Arcadia in western Wisconsin said that in response to the on-going public debate regarding illegal immigration that he wants to make English that city's official language.

Besides officially recognizing English, Mayor John Kimmel said that also wants to have city ordinances requiring all street signs be printed in English only, that an American flag be flown next to any foreign flag and that all illegal aliens be immediately reported to federal immigration officials.

"I heard this story from one guy who said one night after a letter was posted about the INS coming, they lost 54 of their workers. That makes me think there is a problem," Kimmel said.

Meanwhile, the mayor's plans have angered city's growing Latino community

Many said that they think his proposals are racist, WISC-TV reported.
