Editorial DirectorThe opposition to the unnecessary, short-sighted and mean-spirited amendment to the state constitution defining marriage is growing into an impressive force that is giving real hope to those seeking to make Wisconsin the first state in the country to defeat such legislation. As expected, advocates for gay marriage and civil unions, as well as open-minded religious and civic organizations, are turning out in force to enlist support for defeating the amendment. But in the last couple of weeks, business groups like the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Madison Inc., have recognized the enlightened economic development argument for defeating the amendment and keeping our state's doors open to the progressive, creative entrepreneurs and workers who will lead the way for economic development in out state. In other words, folks who rightly see the amendment as creating an intolerant, oppressive environment that they find unwelcoming and stifling. This is all very encouraging, a welcome sign this proposal is being seen for the hypocrisy it is.What do you think? Give your two cents in Channel 3000's TALKBACK section.
