MADISON, Wis. -- A Richland Center man accused of flashing and groping women around Madison made his first court appearance on Tuesday. The court commissioner set bail at $10,000 for Brian Carley.Initial charges are still pending because more women are coming forward. So far, at least 10 women claim Carley either flashed them or groped them in public places like the mall or on the street.Carley's attorney said his client suffers from mental illness and checked himself into the William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital. But over the weekend, Carley checked out and was promptly arrested, WISC-TV reported. His parents could have posted bail this weekend but chose not to."They didn't want to do that because they want some conditions laid down so they can make sure he's not a danger to others," said Mark Eisenberg, Carley's attorney.Prosecutor Mike Verveer said Carley is a danger to others."The defendant knows and has admitted to investigating detectives that he is terrifying women in Dane County and either doesn't care ... or can't control his actions or both," Verveer said.Verveer said Carley blamed his acts on a head injury from 2003. He also said the number of offenses makes this case severe. As a condition of his release, Carley must stay with his parents in Richland Center, WISC-TV reported. He faces at least four counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and another four counts of lewd and lascivious behavior.
