Dane County deputies are on the look out for a hit-and-run driver.

Early Sunday morning, Gregory McCullick, 20, of Mt. Horeb was struck and killed in the town of Springdale.

McCullick was an MATC student and a 2004 graduate of Mt. Horeb High School.

The activities director at Mt. Horeb High School described McCullick as a good student, quality baseball and football player, and all-around nice kid.

Friends and family placed flowers at the spot on Dairy Ridge Road where McCullick was killed.

Investigators say McCullick was walking home from a nearby residence when he was hit sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. Sunday.

A passerby found McCullick's body around 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway J in the town of Springdale.

"He was hit from behind by a west bound vehicle, so he was walking in the same direction of the traffic," said Dane County Public Information Officer Elise Schaffer. "That is a dangerous situation."

The sheriff's department is looking for a dark metallic gray 1983 to 1994 Chevy S-10 Blazer or pick up truck. The vehicle would have damage to the hood and front passenger side.

phone Anyone with information on the accident is urged to call the Dane County Tip Line at 284-6900.
