FITCHBURG, Wis. -- Fitchburg rejected its own smoking ban, but now the city is starting a formal push to snuff out smoking statewide.

Fitchburg council members are referring a resolution to state lawmakers that would push for a smoking ban across Wisconsin.

Supporters said the statewide ban could "even" the playing field.

The Public Safety and Human Services Committee will look at the issue on Aug. 8.
