UW-Madison Provost Patrick Farrell said that it will allow Kevin Barrett to teach an introductory course on Islam as scheduled in the fall.

Farrell initiated a review after Barrett spoke on a radio talk show last month about his views that the 2001 terrorist attacks were a government conspiracy designed to spark war in the Middle East.

The provost said that Barrett's views on the matter are expected to take a small, but significant, role in his class. Farrell said that Barrett has assured him that students will be free, and encouraged, to challenge his viewpoint.

Farrell said that the university doesn't endorse Barrett's theories, but he said that his review found Barrett has a record of quality teaching.
