MADISON, Wis. -- Madison voters will again be weighing in on a school referendum in November. This time, the plan to reduce overcrowding in some district schools will include three questions. One asks voters to build a new elementary school on the far West Side. Another question asks about adding on to Leopold Elementary, and a third question asks to re-finance existing debt. Those on the front lines in the last referendum battle are already preparing for what to do this time around.Anne Arnesen, who represents the group G.R.U.M.P.S., supports the referendum"It gets down to the simple fact that distance between the East and West Side in Madison is quite extensive. It's a long way to travel from the far West to the East Side where they might have space," said Arnesen.Sam Johnson, who represents the group "Get Real," said he opposes the referendum."I don't believe they've looked at other options. I believe they could have looked at boundary shifting. They could have looked at running the school the second shift hours, keeping school open later at night or 12 months a year," said Johnson. The referendums will total $23.5 million, WISC-TV reported.
