Beloit Casino Closer To Reality
Gov. McCallum Maintains Staunch Opposition
A proposed Beloit casino is another step closer to becoming reality.
The Bad River and St. Croix tribes have sent their application to the Bureau of Indian affairs.
Tribal members met with neighbors and local lawmakers today, saying they're optimistic it will be approved.
However, Go. McCallum continues his vow not to allow any new casinos.
Tribal leaders say they want a partnership with their communities.
"After the process comes through and we actually go knocking on the governor's door, we'll go there in a partnership," Mike Wiggins of the Bad River tribe said. "It'll be the Bad River tribe, the St. Croix tribe, the city of Beloit, Rock County. And we'll be looking for our fifth partner and that will be the state."
Sixty-one percent of Beloit voters said yes to the proposed casino in a November referendum.
