Green: Tough Tax Days Will End Under New Plan

Gubernatorial Candidate Supports Constitutional Amendment

Updated: 11:52 am CDT April 17,2006

Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Green said that if he's elected governor, he'll attempt to cap state government growth.

The congressman from Green Bay also said that he'll ask for a property tax freeze in his first budget.

He has started his campaign by harping about collections on the day state and federal income taxes are due.

Green faces Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle in November's election.

Green said that his first budget plan would include strict limits on the amount of property taxes local municipalities can raise and a cap on tax revenues the state could collect.

Green also said that he supports the so-called Taxpayer Protection Amendment, which would include a constitutional amendment capping how fast taxes and government spending can increase in Wisconsin.
