Another former lawmaker is now in jail for his role in the Capitol corruption case.

Former Assembly Majority Leader Steve Foti was booked in the Dane County Jail on Sunday morning, but will serve his 60-day sentence in Waukesha County.

In an exclusive interview with WISC-TV, Foti said he didn't appeal the sentence because he wants to get on with his life.

Foti pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor ethics violation in January.

The plea deal required him to testify against former Assembly Republican Scott Jensen.

"I have a lot of very good friends out there and family who have been supportive all the way through the process," said Foti. "I've literally received hundreds of phone calls over the last three days wishing me support and saying that they think this is an injustice."

"The jail time is important because it does send a signal," said Common Cause Executive Director Jay Heck. "That really this was a rip off of the taxpayers in terms of money used to pay salaries of people who were doing partisan political work instead of the work of the people."

Foti will also pay a $1,000 fine and $28,000 in taxpayer-funded legal fees.

Foti may also have to pay part of former aide Sherry Schultz's salary, nearly $300,000.

Foti will continue working as a lobbyist while serving his jail time.
