An aide to convicted state Rep. Scott Jensen, R-Milwaukee, said that he deleted all of Jensen's e-mail after the lawmaker resigned last month.

Jensen aide Steve Knudson said that he got rid of the mail because he thought the e-mail account would be shut down by the next day.

Jensen resigned following his conviction on three felony misconduct-in-office charges and a misdemeanor.

The former Assembly speaker said that he wasn't aware the records had been destroyed.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wanted copies of Jensen's e-mails involving charges against him. Knudson said that state technicians recovered e-mails sent since March 19 and he will forward those to the paper.

Ellen Nowak, chief of staff for the current Assembly speaker and also an attorney, said that legislators have no obligation to keep those records, unless the records have been requested.
