Police Investigate Downtown Beloit Killing

Victim Had A Restraining Order Against A Janesville Man

Updated: 10:14 pm CST March 27, 2006

Beloit police are conducting a murder investigation at the Edward Jones Corp. office in downtown, WISC-TV reported.

A co-worker apparently discovered on Monday morning the body of the victim, identified as Julienne McGuire, 44, of Janesville.

McGuire worked as an office clerk at the Edward Jones office, located in the 300 block of State Street, in downtown, WISC-TV reported.

The worker made the discovery at about 9:30 a.m. and called 911. The office opened at 8 a.m.

Police aren't releasing any information on how McGuire was killed, but officers are currently looking for the victim's purse.

Court records show the victim had a restraining order against a 44-year-old Janesville man who was convicted of stalking her last year.

Beloit Police won't comment on the order at this time, but Chief Norm Jacobs said the search for clues is continuing.

"Downtown Beloit is a safe place to do business and this is quite a shocking crime for the community down there," Jacobs said. "So, we are hoping that the number of businesses that would have been open that early ... someone would identify a person or a vehicle they might have seen."

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

This is the second homicide in Beloit this year, WISC-TV reported.

Police are asking anyone working the downtown Beloit area for information on any suspicious activity to call (608) 364-6800.
