MADISON, Wis. -- Unions representing state employees want a judge to dismiss a charge against a Wisconsin Department of Administration worker.Georgia Thompson is accused of fraud for allegedly steering a state travel contract to a company who donated money to Gov. Jim Doyle's campaign. The coalition of unions argued in a friend of the court brief that prosecutors were overreaching in charging the purchasing supervisor for her role in awarding a contract to Adelman Travel Group. The indictment accuses Thompson of manipulating the selection process so the contract would go to Adelman to benefit her bosses politically and improve her job security. Two Adelman executives donated $20,000 to Doyle's re-election campaign before and after the contract to book travel for state employees went into effect.
