Middleton teenagers can see the doctor for free, as long as the doctor is Dr. Peter Karofsky, a professor emeritus at the UW Medical School.

Dr. Karofsky and his wife run a free clinic for Middleton teens twice a week during school lunch hours.

This year, school staff has referred more than 80 kids.

"When they're healthy they're able to learn so you know their emotional health and their physical health has a lot to do with them being in school and being successful in school," said school social worker Cheryl Hoff.

"I can spend twice to three times as much time with my patients here as I ever could in private practice because I don't have somebody upstairs in a suit telling me how long I can spend with a patient," said Karofsky. "Nobody tells me that and these kids are getting Cadillac care."

The Dean Foundation has donated the exam rooms and other space for the teen clinic.

It is funded through private donations and located about one mile from the high school.
