Chvala Challenges Restitution Recommendation

Posted: 9:37 pm CST February 1, 2006Updated: 10:22 pm CST February 1, 2006

How much restitution should former state Sen. Chuck Chvala pay for having state workers campaign on state time?

Prosecutors said just more than $2,000.

But Chvala's attorney has filed a formal objection, saying there's no basis for the amount.

Prosecutors told the judge $2,044 in restitution is based on estimates that Senate aides spent only a part of their work hours working on the campaigns in 2000.

Three other former lawmakers convicted as a result of the capitol corruption scandal face restitution between $3,500 and $300,000.
