A 63-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday in a vehicle vs. bike crash on Syene Road in Fitchburg, police said.

According to a news alert, police were sent to the area of Syene and McCoy roads around 4:40 p.m. for reports of a crash involving a bicycle and a van.

A 63-year-old Madison woman was biking east on the Capital City Trail, investigators said. When the woman got to Syene Road, she was involved in a crash with a van being driven north on Syene Road by a 51-year-old Madison man.

Several witnesses helped the bicyclist before she was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

Investigators said there was no evidence to indicate that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Syene Road was closed from McCoy Road to Post Road until around 7:30 p.m.

Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call 608-270-4300.
