Former Assistant Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Ladwig admitted guilt in a misdemeanor ethics violation. The Republican apologized in a statement to her constituents and lawmakers for directing state resources to help GOP candidates.

In a deal with prosecutors, she'll likely pay $4,500 in fines and restitution. Ladwig will be sentenced in March.

Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard isn't seeking jail time or probation.

"A lot of different factors, including her age, her willingness to acknowledge her conduct at this time, and her overall conduct in the case,” said Blanchard.

Ladwig worked under former Assembly Majority Leader Steve Foti and former Speaker Scott Jensen. Both still face felony misconduct in office charges, and Jensen still serves in the assembly.

Their trials are set to begin in February.
