MADISON, Wis. -- Former state Senate Majority Leader Chuck Chvala asked a judge on Thursday not to sentence him to any jail time, WISC-TV reported.Chvala apologized for his actions in the court filings, but downplayed his actions that led to felony charges against him in the state Capitol corruption investigation. He pleaded guilty to hiring a state worker to run a political campaign, but he insists that he never ordered employees to use state equipment for political purposes.Chvala said that he should get no more than community service.Prosecutors have said that they think otherwise, and have recommended six months in jail. His sentencing is scheduled for next week, WISC-TV reported. The original charges against Chvala included extortion -- counts that were dismissed as part of a plea deal. He attacked those charges in his court filings on Thursday, insisting the events lobbyists recounted for prosecutors never happened.
