Avery Formally Charged With Murder
Tires Were Used To Burn Halbach's Body

MANITOWOC, Wis. -- He spent 18 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit.Now Steven Avery is officially charged with murder.Avery also faces a charge of mutilating Teresa Halbach's corpse.The criminal complaint filed Tuesday indicates the DNA from charred human remains, found on Avery's property matches Halbach's.The document also said that tires were used to help burn Halbach's body.Blood matching Avery's DNA was found in Halbach's car on both the driver and front passenger seat, the ignition area and rear passenger door entrance.Halbach's family was in the courtroom during Tuesday's proceeding."We haven't expressed emotions on camera but believe me, behind closed doors, it hurts," said Halbach's brother Mike Halbach. "You know, we cry, we talk about what happened and we talk about the great things Teresa did on earth."The judge set Avery's bail at $500,000 cash.A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Dec. 6.Teresa Halbach will be laid to rest on Saturday in her hometown of Sherwood.
