An anti-war group wants Madisonians to vote on whether to bring military members serving in Iraq home with a "war referendum."

Group members started collecting signatures this week for the Bring Our Troops Home Referendum. The provision would give Madison voters the chance to vote on whether or not U.S. troops should pull out of Iraq.

Supporters say the referendum would deliver a powerful message to the administration.

"Some may think it's silly, but we need to make a statement," said Ray Maida, whose son Mark died serving in Iraq. "Mark would be standing here if he were alive, and making this same statement."

The group has 60 days to collect the 13,000 signatures needed to get the referendum on the ballot.
