Police, Officials Offer Trade To Stem Recent Gun Violence

MADISON, Wis. -- Got a gun you don't want, and need some new clothes?Those who turn in a gun to officials this week will receive a $50 gift certificate to East and West Towne malls as part of "Operation Peacekeeper," a multi-pronged approach to rising gun calls and incidents in the city of Madison.Madison police, local and state officials, the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives and University of Wisconsin basketball coach Bo Ryan kicked off a gun "buy back" program Monday."Gun violence and people taking other peoples lives and causing bodily harm through anger -- there will never be an answer to it, the only thing you have here is you have actions," Ryan said.Call the gun hotline at (608) 266-4524 through Friday for more information.
