Wrongly Imprisoned Man Gets Money For Lost Wages

MADISON, Wis. -- A Two Rivers man will get $25,000 for spending 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.The state claims board granted Steven Avery the largest amount the board could award based on current law.Board members told Avery he could request more from the state if lawmakers increase the cap on such claims.Avery wanted $1 million for back wages, retirement benefits and potential promotions he never received because of his prison time.Avery was 23 years old when he was convicted of rape.The Wisconsin Innocence Project recently pushed for DNA testing, which exonerated Avery.
