Dane County officials set up a sex sting at Token Creek Park, just north of Madison, and issued five citations over the weekend.

Many are drawn to the scenic Dane County park after accessing Web sites, which list the park and several other local parks as cruising areas for sex, reports News 3's Joel DeSpain.

"The bottom line is that any act of sexual gratification in any way shape or form is just not going to be tolerated in a public park," said Lt. Steve Gilmore, commander of Dane County's northeast precinct.

Deputies set up the sting, using an undercover deputy who wore a wire, after several citizen complaints that included a woman who said she saw something she didn't want to and a man who was solicited for sex.

"We're trying to make out parks as accessible and enjoyable for all the public and all the patrons that go there," said Darren Marsh, acting Dane County Parks director. "If we've got any type of unlawful situations, we want to try to deal with them as quickly as possible."

The Web sites highlight other nearby parks, including Riverside in Janesville and Olin Turville in Madison, where police have also cracked down as recently as last week, News 3 reported.

"Of the arrests and citations that we've issued this summer, some have been from the Madison area, but others are from different cities throughout the state of Wisconsin, and even from out of state," Gilmore said.

Now the department is listing in a news release the names of those picked up in the most recent round up. The suspects range in age from 33 to 74 and received vagrancy or lewd and lascivious behavior citations.

"The bottom line (is) if their names are published, it'll act as a deterrent to curb this activity," Gilmore said.

Besides the public humiliation, each man received a $305 ticket.
