Tornado Damage Closes Madison Library Branch Indefinitely

Madison is getting a better handle on damage estimates, but more casualties are coming in.

The brunt of the storm was clearly to trees, as winds ripped large trees out by the roots on the city's west side. Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said the large amount of trees down is upsetting.

Another loss is the Sequoya branch library on Midvale Boulevard. It's closed indefinitely due to damage.

"It's got some holes in their roof," Cieslewicz said. "They've got some damage to the heating and cooling system. Luckily, there was no damage or very minimal damage to the contents of the library."

The mayor said Sequoya is the most popular branch in the city, and he's hopeful it will reopen as soon as possible.
