Main Contrubutor Is Failure To Yield Right-Of-Way

A two-car collision in Bradford Township on Friday morning left one driver critically injured.

Police and firefighters arrived at the scene just before 9 a.m. to find Michael Downing, 45, in the driver’s seat of his Chevy Corsica, suffering severe head trauma.

A Medical helicopter airlifted Downing to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in Rockford, Ill., where he is reported to be in critical condition. His car sustained heavy passenger side damage, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

Initial investigations of the crash said Downing failed to stop at the intersection of State Highway 140 and collided with a 33,000-pound grain hauler driven by Allen Weiland, 61. Downing had his seat belt fastened.

Investigators said that alcohol doesn't seem to be a contributor to the crash.

Wisconsin State Patrol closed State Highway 140 for approximately three and a half hours to reconstruct the crash.
