Police: Man Fights Officers After 5th OWI Arrest

Multiple Witnesses Say Driver Almost Hit School Bus

A 61-year-old Madison resident was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, fifth offense, after witnesses told police his vehicle almost hit a school bus on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Vera Court on the city's north side. According to police, David Cockings, 61, of Madison was arrested after multiple witnesses called police about a possible drunken driver who was all over the road and almost hit a school bus.

Police said that Cockings started a fight with officers when they tried to arrest him, and remained belligerent toward officers before booked in the Dane County Jail.
