Criminals target phones, purse
Three robberies were reported in different areas of downtown Madison Tuesday and early Wednesday, according to Madison police.
Officers responded to a robbery in the 1600 block of Summit Avenue at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, the 20 block Langdon Street at 11:44 p.m. and 1000 block of Williamson Street at 12:24 a.m. on Wednesday.
In the Summit Avenue robbery, a 22-year-old woman said she was walking near Breeze Terrace when a man grabbed her arm and stole her smart phone. The woman told police she believed the man left in a car.
The robber was described as black, in his early 20s, with a thin build, shaved head and wearing a white T-shirt and basketball shorts.
In the Langdon Street robbery, a 42-year-old Georgia woman in town to attend a conference said she was talking on her smart phone when a man struck her on the top of the head and stole her phone. Witnesses reported seeing the robber flee in a silver car.
The robber was described as black, 25-35 years old and wearing a white shirt and dark colored shorts.
In the Williamson Street robbery, a 24-year-old woman said she was sitting with a friend on a porch when she had her purse ripped from her hands. The thief jumped into a silver car, possible a Buick. Police said the car sped away from downtown.
The robber was described as black, 17-21 years old, 140-160 pounds, with a slender build, a bald or shaved head and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
