3 hurt when plane makes hard landing
Plane ices up, makes hard landing in northeastern Wis.
Three passengers suffered minor injuries when a twin-engine plane iced up and made a hard landing in northeastern Wisconsin.
The plane carrying five people landed at J. Douglas Bake Memorial Airport in Oconto Thursday afternoon.
Oconto County sheriff's deputy Troy Sherman tells Press-Gazette Media the three passengers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, but the pilot and co-pilot refused treatment.
Sherman says the pilot notified Austin Straubel International Airport around 3:30 p.m. that the plane's instruments and wings were icing up and he would make an emergency landing in Oconto. Twenty minutes later, the plane landed hard at the Oconto airport, apparently because poor visibility prevented the pilot and co-pilot from being able to see the ground.
The plane skid off the runway and was heavily damaged.
