Baraboo Man Arrested After Brief Standoff

Man Allegedly Threatened To Stab Police

Updated: 11:03 am CDT May 23, 2011

A Baraboo man was arrested after a brief standoff on Sunday.

Police were first called to the home on the 300 block of 8th Street at around 8:40 p.m. when a 16-year-old man said his father, Kenneth B. Nolden, 51, hit him in the eye. When officers arrived, they saw a man yell from an exterior door that he would stab any police officers who entered the home.

Officials said two women were able to get out of the home and told police that Nolden did have a knife. Nolden continued to yell that he would stab the officers, so the Sauk County Emergency Response Team and the Sauk Country Crisis Negotiation Team were called. Officials made contact with Nolden, who refused to come out of the home and continued to threaten officers.

After about an hour and a half of negotiations, Nolden came out of the home and was taken into custody, officials said.

No injuries were reported, but Nolden was taken to the hospital for an unrelated medical issue.

Nolden is facing tentative charges of child abuse and disorderly conduct.
