NEWS 3 REPORTER DAVE DELOZIER SPOKE TODAY TO THE CREATOR
OF THE HAUNTED HOUSE AND A NEIGHBOR WHO IS UNHAPPY
WITH THE PROJECT.
-- DAVE --
ERIC AND MICHELLE - THE CREATORS OF WISCONSIN SCARYLAND
HAVE BEEN BUILDING THEIR HAUNTED HOUSE FOR THE LAST
THEY ARE PLANNING ON OPENING THEIR DOORS TO THE PUBLIC
ON SEPTEMBER 19TH AND STAYING OPEN THROUGH HALLOWEEN
ONE OF THEIR NEIGHBORS THOUGH SAYS SCARING PEOPLE
AT A HAUNTED HOUSE WITH DISABLED VETS IS INAPPRORIATE.
actually my wife and i are huge fans of halloween.
WHICH IS WHY GUY KITCHELL AND HIS WIFE SARAH HAVE
BEEN WORKING ON CREATING AN ELABORATE HAUNTED HOUSE
FOR THE LAST 11 MONTHS.
there has to be a storyline, just like in a movie
or a tv show you have to have a back story.
WISCONSIN SCARYLAND WILL FEATURE THREE STORYLINES
BUT ONE IS GETTING PARTICULAR ATTENTION.
so our back story talks about this being an abandoned
i looked at it and was like, boy, that doesn't seem
CHRISTOPHER GERG LIVES NEAR WHERE WISCONSIN SCARYLAND
IS BEING BUILT - HIS CONCERN FOR VETERANS LIVES EVEN
so my dad is a veteran.
AND WHEN HE LOOKED AT WISCONSIN SCARYLAND'S WEBSITE
AND READ ABOUT AN AMPUTEE HOSPITAL FOR SOLDIERS WHERE
A MASS SUICIDE OCCURED - IT STRUCK A NERVE.
it kind of rubbed my fur the wrong way was when it
was kind of using veterans to make that dollar and
using the suffering of veterans to make that dollar
it just doesn't seem right.
we didn'tr mean to offend any disabled vets.
in fact my wife sarah is a disabled vet, army vet
and my lead fabricator is also a disabled vet.
we have other vets who are either volunteers or have
been working at the haunt for the last 10, 11 months.
KITCHELL ALSO SAYS THE HAUNTED HOUSE IS NOT MEANT
TO REFLECT THE REAL WORLD.
it is a fantacy, just like a video game or a tv show
or a movie.
BUT FOR CHRISTOPHER GERG - THIS FANTACY IS A LITTLE
TOO CLOSE TO REALITY.
by all accounts and by their own website it looks
like they are using disabled veterans as a scary thing
or people with post traumatic stress disorder as a
it is a scary thing, but it is not funny.
