A DOMESTIC DISPUTE TURNS DEADLY IN JANESVILLE.
1618 Mole Avenue
OFFICERS WERE CALLED OUT TO THE 16-HUNDRED BLOCK OF
MOLE AVENUE JUST BEFORE 3 A-M.
THEY FOUND A 32-YEAR-OLD MAN, A STATE TROOPER, OUT
ON THE LAWN.
WITH A STAB WOUND TO HIS HAND.
HIS 31-YEAR-OLD WIFE WAS DEAD INSIDE OF THE HOUSE
FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT
NEWS 3's DANNIKA LEWIS PICKS UP THE STORY FROM THERE.
POLICE SAY IT WASN'T THE STATE TROOPER'S SERVICE WEAPON.
BUT A GUN OWNED BY THE COUPLE THAT HOLLIE ROWAN USED
TO TAKE HER OWN LIFE.
CHIEF DAVID MOORE, Janesville Police Dept.: 5815
In the very early moments, we were concerned, is
this a suicide? Is this a homicide?
JANESVILLE POLICE CHIEF DAVID MOORE SAYS HOLLIE ROWAN
THREATENED TO TAKE HER OWN LIFE BEFORE.
AND HE SAYS IT WAS CLEAR FROM THE 9-1-1 CALL FROM
THIS HOME ON MOLE AVENUE.
THAT CARL ROWAN DIDN'T PLAY A ROLE IN HER DEATH.
CHIEF DAVID MOORE, Janesville Police Dept.: 5731
in the beginning of the tape, we could hear Mrs.
Rowan talking, or actually arguing with Mr.
Rowan, so we know that she was okay at that point.
CARL STAYED ON THE LINE UNTIL OFFICERS ARRIVED.
NO ONE HEARD THE GUNSHOT THAT KILLED HOLLIE.
CHIEF DAVID MOORE, Janesville Police Dept.: 5756
we know that she was okay at the beginning of the
six minutes, so we were able to certainly learn that
that was a self-inflicted gunshot wound because of
that 911 tape.
CHIEF MOORE SAYS CARL WAS THE VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
BEFORE HOLLIE TOOK HER OWN LIFE...
POLICE BELIEVE SHE STABBED HER HUSBAND IN THE HAND.
THEN STABBED HERSELF IN THE ARM.
JAMES DOPKINS, Lives Across The Street: 0233 We
come to find out that it was right down the, you know
like three of four houses down from us, so we were
kind of like, shocked specifically with his occupation.
IT'S NO SECRET TO NEIGHBORS THAT CARL IS A STATE TROOPER.
BUT SOME THINGS WERE MORE PRIVATE.
POLICE SAY THE COUPLE FOUGHT OVER THE YEARS.
BUT OFFICERS WERE NEVER CALLED OUT TO THE HOME.
CHIEF DAVID MOORE, Janesville Police Dept.: 5053
We never got that call ahead of time.
We never had that chance to intervene.
56 -- COVER WITH SCENE VIDEO
JAMES DOPKINS, Lives Across The Street: 0414 It
is sad though, I must admit, very sad.
POLICE DON'T KNOW IF SUBSTANCE ABUSE OR MENTAL HEALTH
ISSUES PLAYED A ROLE IN HOLLIE ROWAN'S SUICIDE ATTEMPTS.
AN AUTOPSY IS SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW.
TONIGHT AT TEN...
WE DIVE INTO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ISSUES.
JANESVILLE POLICE HAVE ALMOST 3-HUNDRED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
ARRESTS ON RECORD THIS YEAR ALONE...
...AND THEY DON'T WANT TO SEE ANY MORE END LIKE THIS.

DANNIKA LEWIS THANKS.
