THE THREE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES FOR ATTORNEY GENERAL
SAY THEY'D HANDLE THE
JOB MUCH DIFFERENTLY THAN VAN-HOLLEN...
AND THEY TOLD A CROWD AT THE U-W LAW SCHOOL THEIR
POLITICAL REPORTER JESSICA ARP WAS AT THE LAST DEBATE
BEFORE THE PRIMARY.
all of the candidates are good progressives and we
agree on most of the issues :33
STATE REPRESENTATIVE JON RICHARDS.
JEFFERSON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY SUSAN HAPP.
AND DANE COUNTY D-A ISMAEL OZANNE AGREED ON MANY OF
THEIR APPROACHES TO RUNNING THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S
INCLUDING WHETHER OR NOT THEY'D DEFEND THE STATE'S
SAME SEX MARRIAGE BAN IN COURT.
i have long believed that that law is uncostitutional
and i would not defend it ;43 and i'm good company
i think you start with whether theres a good faith
legal basis to defend a law :23 and if there isnt,
theres an issue
as attorney general you have to first start with the
constitution and i believe that law was unconstitutional
BUT THERE WERE DIFFERENCES ON CRIMINALIZING FIRST-OFFENSE
WHO IS THE FIRST DEMOCRATIC D-A IN JEFFERSON COUNTY
IN 70 YEARS...
SAID SHE WOULDN'T SUPPORT A CHANGE IN THE LAW.
I think its disengenious to suggest that someone who
is impaired by the consumption of alcohol is thinking
rationally to be weighing what the consequences are
ALSO A FORMER DEPUTY SECRETARY OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT
driving drunk is like firing a loaded gun into a crowd,
you may not hit soembody but if you do you're almost
certain to cause great bodily harm or death :13 and
its time to start taking it seriously :17
AN EIGHT-TERM STATE REPRESENTATIVE FROM MILWAUKEE.
SAYS BACKROOM DEALS KILLED STRONGER LAWS THAT HE SUPPORTED
IN THE LEGISLATURE.
i think thats wrong and we need to have an attorney
general that will stand up for public safety and make
sure we pass strong drunk driving laws and advocate
for that ;54
RICHARDS WAS ALSO ASKED
WHETHER HE'D SUPPORT DE-CRIMINALIZING
MARIJUANA IN WISCONSIN...
HE SAID HE WOULDN'T YET SUPPORT WISCONSIN GOING DOWN
AFTER THE DEBATE HAPP SAID SHE WOULDN'T ADVOCATE FOR
AND OZANNE SAID IT WOULD BE UP TO THE LEGISLATURE.
