TOMORROW, IS OUR NEXT BUILD A BETTER COMMUNITY DAY
-- MICHELLE --
WE'LL BE SPENDING THE ENTIRE DAY HIGHLIGHTING THE
GREAT WORK BEING DONE AT ACCESS TO INDEPENDENCE.
SUSAN SIMAN JOINS US WITH MORE.
ERIC AND MICHELLE, WE'RE EXCITED TO HELP SUPPORT AN
ORGANIZATION THAT IS MAKING A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE
FOR PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY
ACCESS TO INDEPENCE IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT
PROVIDES JUST ABOUT ANY SERVICE YOU CAN IMAGINE FOR
PEOPLE WITH ALL TYPES OF DISABILITIES IN DANE, COLUMBIA,
GREEN AND DODGE COUNTIES.
LEE HAS BEEN DEAF SINCE BIRTH BUT THANKS TO ACCESS
TO INDEPENDENCE, LEE HAS A FULL TIME JOB AT MEADOWMERE
ASSISTED LIVING COMMUNITY ON MADISON'S EAST SIDE.
ACCESS TO INDEPENDENCE ALSO HELPED LEE FIND AND SECURE
ON HIS OWN APARTMENT.
WITH THE HELP OF INTERPRETERS LIKE SUE GUDENKAUF,
LEE IS LIVING A FULL AND INDEPENDENT LIFE
And I told them that I was deaf and they wrote back
to me and then someone came outside and started talking
to me in sign language
What are some of the good things that happened after
you connected with Access to Independence? How did
it change your life?
Denise who worked at Access to Independence really
helped me know about alerting devices for the doorbell
or someone knocks on the door or the phone rings or
if I needed an interpretor at a doctors appointment
they would help with an
advocate at the doctors appointment.
They were really very helpful.
-- SUSAN --
