THE DAMAGE STRETCHES ACROSS A LARGE PORTION OF SOUTHERN
A CONFIRMED EFI TORNADO NORTHEAST OF OREGON IN DANE
ANOTHER EF 1TORNADO HIT FENNIMORE IN GRANT COUNTY.
NEWS THREE'S DAVE DELOZIER CONTINUES OUR TEAM COVERAGE
FROM IOWA COUNTY.
WHERE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICIALS ARE EVALAUATING
the power of sunday night's storm can maybe best be
seen here on the farm of mark masters - 7 miles west
its amazing what the power of mother nature can do.
A TORNADO WARNING HAD MARK MASTERS AND HIS FAMILY
IN THE BASEMENT OF THEIR HOME WHEN THE STORM HIT
but there wasn't a roar.
it was just a real 15 to 30 second period of wind
and it was all over.
IN THAT SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THE STORM TORE THE TOP
OFF OF TWO LARGE SILOS AND BUCKLED THE WALLS OF THE
IT ALSO DAMAGED THE CONVEYOR BELT SYSTEM.
ALL TOLL - IT WILL COST SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS
TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE.
WHAT MATTERS TO MASTERS THOUGH IS WHAT HE SEES WHEN
HE LOOKS ACROSS THE PARKING LOT FROM THE SILOS.
we're only what? 300 feet away from 2 houses and
they're standing and there's no damage.
AND THAT HIS FAMILY WAS IN THIS HOUSE - A SHORT DISTANCE
FROM THIS - ISN'T LOST ON HIM
oh yeah, real much.
its a very fine line between damage and non damage
and sometimes life and death.
THE STORM THAT PASSED SO CLOSE TO HIS HOME THEN CUT
A PATH THROUGH A FARM FIELD BEFORE SNAPPING 10 POWER
POLES ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 18.
POLES BROKEN LIKE TOOTHPICKS GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF
THE POWER OF THIS STORM.
its nature, you can't predict.
AND IT CAN BE EVEN HARDER TO UNDERSTAND WHY A HOME
IS SPARED AND OTHER THINGS ARE NOT.
MARK MASTERS SAYS HE DOESN'T NEED TO KNOW WHY - HE'S
this is part of the agriculture business, the business
of any ? you take risks and you insure for risks.
you just hope your not in the way of this or your
family or friends and your lives are jeopardized.
MARK MASTERS SAYS HE DOESN'T KNOW IF THE DAMAGE TO
HIS FARM WAS DONE BY A TORNADO OR STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.
WHILE HE SAYS HE'D LIKE TO KNOW - IT REALLY ISN'T
THAT IMPORTANT TO HIM.
HE SAYS THE DAMAGE CAN BE REPAIRED AND HE IS HOPEFUL
THAT CAN ALL BE DONE BEFORE HARVEST BEGINS LATER THIS
