NEXT AT SIX, IN SAUK COUNTY, THE *PRINCIPAL* AT BARABOO
HIGH SCHOOL AND SEVERAL STUDENTS BEGAN SERVING SUSPENSIONS
FOR A PRANK.
THAT QUICKLY ESCALATED TO VANDALISM.
NEWS 3'S DAVE DELOZIER EXPLAINS.
ERIC - THE PRINCIPAL - GLENN BILDSTEN GAVE THE STUDENTS
ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL LAST WEDNESDAY.
THE STUDENTS WERE INSIDE.
FOR SEVERAL HOURS THAT EVENING.
a senior prank that went a little too far.
IT STARTED OUT INNOCENTLY ENOUGH ON THE NIGHT OF MAY
a student had approached the high school principal,
bilsten and had asked permission to conduct a senior
prank and the senior prank involved rearranging some
desks in the classroom.
BARABOO HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL GLENN BILDSTEN AGREED
TO ALLOW THE EIGHT STUDENTS INTO THE SCHOOL AFTER
HOURS AND UN-SUPERVISED.
EIGHT STUDENTS SOON BECAME MORE.
well we think what was supposed to be an original
group of 8 students turned into 68 pretty quickly
with the help of social media.
MORE THAN JUST DESKS WERE MOVED.
BABY POWDER AND GLITTER WERE DUMPED IN THE SCHOOL
AND SOAP DISPENSERS WERE URINATED IN.
ONE TOILET WAS BROKEN WHEN A STUDENT STOOD ON IT.
THE BARABOO POLICE HAS BEEN TRYING TO SORT THROUGH
now as far as any type of citations, again i want
to clearify this is not a criminal investigation.
if and i want to clearify that if any citations are
issued those would simply be municipal citations.
that is if any are issued at this time.
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS ALREADY MOVED TO SUSPEND SOME
OF THE STUDENTS FOR ONE OR TWO DAYS.
OTHER STUDENTS WERE GIVEN DETENTION.
THE PRINCIPAL HAS BEGUN A TWO DAY UN-PAID SUSPENSION.
glenn has worked with us 100 percent in this thing.
i'm sure no one feels worse about this that him.
he's a good principal.
he's been in our district for a number of years.
this is his first year at the high school level however,
so he's learning about the differences with students
in that age group.
GLENN BILDSTEN HAS BEEN A PRINCIPAL IN THE DISTRICT
FOR 14 YEARS.
IN PREVIOUS YEARS HE WAS THE PRINCIPAL AT THE ELEMENTARY
ALL OF THE MINOR VANDALISM WAS CLEANED UP THE DAY
AFTER IT OCCURED.
60 OF THE 68 STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE VANDALISM HELPED
WITH THE CLEANUP.
